Method of Application
-
Surface Prearation
- Surface preparation is important. Correct surface preparation helps to achieve proper bonding between substrate and new floor.
- All surfaces must be clean and structurally sound. The Substrate should be cleaned using a brush to remove any dust or loose particles.
- The surface of the concrete must be mechanically scarified or must be hacked to at least 70-80% of the total concrete surface. The surface must be divided in equals panels of 2*3 meter to avoid shrinkage cracks.
- Pre-wetting on concrete at least 5-6 hour before is a must and excess water should be allowed to dry before the application begun.
- Priming Prior to the application of screed, the substrate must be primed as described below:
Mix latex with cement 1: 1.5 by volume to produce latex/cement slurry. Mixing should be done with a suitable electrical stirrer. Brush the latex/cement slurry into the dry saturated surface. The latex/cement slurry must not be allowed to dry out before applying TBM 250, otherwise de-bonding may occur.
- Mixing TBM 250 to be mixed with clean water in a plastic bucket or non- corrosive, uncontaminated metal tub. Add 50kg TBM 250 to 6.50 litres of clean potable water and stir frequently with a suitable electrical agitator until a stiff plastic consistency is achieved. When the mixing is done in a continuous mixer the water is adjusted by the flow meter and mixing is carried our automatically.
- Application
Apply 20-100 mm in single application. Ensure that the bedding mortar is well bonded to the substrate and that is fully compacted. In the event of thickness exceeding 100mm it should be applied in two layers. The second layer should be applied after a minimum period of 24 hrs and the base layer should be scratched with the help of notched trowel. Do not use water to finish the surface as this will cause cracking, crazing and dusting of the surface.
- Curing
Curing for a minimum period of 3 to 7 days (3-4 times a day) depending upon thickness and ambient conditions. The longer the curing period (up to seven days) the better will be the performance of the bedding mortar.
-
Precautions
- Material that has begun to harden or caking should not be used.
- Use cool water during warm or hot weather.
- Do not use water to finish the surface as this will cause cracking and crazing of surface.
- Protect the surface of freshly laid material from direct sunlight and air blowing.
- Storage
TBM-250 must be protected from moisture and direct sunlight. Store off the ground in a cool and dry place.
